World Series highlights

NEW YORK – The World Series isn’t just about the games; it’s also about the moments. From the most memorable hits to the most egregious misplays, it’s a series that’s been full of them. Here are a few of the best World Series highlights in history.

After a wild game four, the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees reverted to their usual style in Game 5. The Dodgers held a one-run lead with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. That’s when a little-used reliever came in and changed everything.

Blake Treinen was called on with the bases loaded and no outs. He got Giancarlo Stanton to fly out and then struck out Anthony Rizzo to end the inning. The Dodgers had managed to avoid a big collapse, but the damage was already done.

The best player of this series may have been the smallest man on the field. Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the 10th was the first such slam in World Series history, and just the second in postseason history.

It’s still early in the postseason, but we can dream about some of the possible World Series matchups that might happen later this month and into November. Here are eight that might interest fans from coast to coast.
